Working life

As a trial run (starting from last Monday) I am trying out a 4-day work week. A lot of companies in different countries are seeing a lot of benefits to a shorter work week, including waaaay less stress and lower risk of burnout.

The Producer side of me has our entire project planned out and scheduled to within an inch of its life. It’ll be interesting to see the effects on myself and the work! The earliest that I’ll be able to see how the impact of a 4-day week affects my work will be in March. If we remain on schedule and I am still sane (well, my average sanity level) then it will be something I will definitely maintain. It’s also something I would want to implement if Hama Studios grows to have employees!

The progression of the new Game so far is very smooth. A large section of the development has just been automated which frees up a lot of our time. I’m expecting to do a lot of Art edits to get the highest quality I can achieve, (#notanartist) and with automation helping, I am currently not worried about having the time to do that!

As well as shorter work weeks, the working day will hopefully be shorter than average. As long as the work gets done, I’m going to take breaks and shorter days to be able to do ‘normal life’ things like, exercise, cooking, dog walking, drinking tea, etc.

Already, after just over a week, I’ve noticed huge changes in my head. It’s cleared up and is now in overdrive with ideas for features and new games. I have a few different notebooks on standby which are filled with Game Designs! The ideas flow freely and are not forced which is very refreshing!

Keep Game Development fun!
