This is the last blog post before our first game will have been officially released on Steam; Usagi Sekai - Bunny Shaman!
The overall production time for this game totals just under a year and a half. This is with a small team of two, who were also working full time jobs in conjunction with making Usagi Sekai – Bunny Shaman. We’ve been working weekday nights, weekends and holidays to get this game completed. It’s been pretty intense, but I am so happy with what we’ve been able to make!
We worked hard to create every aspect of this game ourselves, which ultimately meant it included areas we do not specialize in. I’m no artist, but I worked on making all the visual aspects for the game, while Marcus, the programmer, not only worked on all of the programming, but animations and sound too. Unfortunately for Marcus’s first-time doing Game Programming, I Designed a very ambitious first project for us. There was a lot of mechanics I wanted to include in this game, which took a long time to build and integrate in-engine (Godot). Thankfully he loves a challenge and is a wiz with anything technical, so he thrived and managed to put together our game!
We could very easily have kept working on this game for at least another year. Expand and improve it, add all the new features and quality of life changes we wanted. We keep discussing all the changes and additions we could make if we had the time. Make it into a bigger, longer, fuller game; but, in the end, we decided it was for the best to put a final end date onto this game and get it released. Otherwise, we would be making adjustments to the game for far to long. At some point it’s better to just leave a project alone and move onto the next one.
The good news is, for our next game, I at least, will be working on it full time. I’m pretty happy to be able to fully focus on strong narrative, horror games like I always wanted! We will steadily be moving away from the haunted, atmospheric, cute world of bunnies, into deeper, darker, scarier worlds!
I am still so excited about the future of our games!
Look forward to updates on our new project in 2025!!
